Overview

Restaurante Akara, nestled within the striking Lopesan Baobab Resort in Meloneras, Las Palmas, offers a unique dining experience that blends contemporary flavors with an inviting atmosphere. Situated at C. Mar Adriático, this restaurant stands out not only for its architectural charm but also for the thoughtful culinary journey it presents.

The menu, although concise, showcases a refined selection of dishes that celebrate fresh, locally inspired ingredients with an international twist. Highlights such as the Apple and Yuzu Cake paired with Pistachio Ice Cream and the elegantly prepared Marinated Cod with Tamarind, Coriander, and Chilli exemplify the kitchen’s ability to balance bold, bright flavors with delicate textures. Seafood lovers will appreciate offerings like Cherne, Bogavante, and Tartar de Atún, which emphasize freshness and expert preparation. Meat options like Lamm and the Invitación Tartar de Solomillo cater to those seeking rich, savory experiences—though some palates might find the lamb’s sweeter sauce a departure from traditional expectation.

The restaurant’s setting enriches the meal, inhabiting two intimate huts within the resort’s impressive upper bar area. This cozy space, thoughtfully decorated, complements the gastronomic experience by creating a warm yet sophisticated environment ideal for couples, families, or culinary enthusiasts looking for quality and calm in Maspalomas.

Service is a hallmark of Restaurante Akara, with staff consistently praised for their professionalism and attentiveness. Guests like Miika Savolainen and Joris Hermy have noted the seamless pairing of wines with dishes, enhancing each flavor profile and elevating the meal. The welcoming nature of servers such as Josu and Sergio adds a personal touch, ensuring diners feel valued and well cared for throughout their visit.

Though not widely known outside the hotel’s sphere, Akara offers a refreshing alternative to the typical resort dining. It appeals to discerning travelers who seek a refined yet approachable menu in a setting that balances architectural beauty with convivial hospitality. While minor hiccups in initial seating have been reported, these moments are overshadowed by the overall quality of the cuisine and the experience.

In essence, Restaurante Akara presents a harmonious blend of thoughtful cuisine, attentive service, and an inviting atmosphere—making it a destination well worth exploring for those visiting Gran Canaria. Whether savoring the delicate langostinos al curry or indulging in a rich chocolate dessert, diners leave with a lasting impression of culinary craft and genuine care.

We were early at place and were told that there might be a few minutes delay to get to our table. The staff guided us to sit down and relax and offered us an aperitiv. The wines were paired with the foods by the staff and was a spot on. Service was all the time great and we were treated properly and with dignity. Would recommend to anyone, small simple menu makes the desicion making easy.

We booked a table at the Akana restaurant for diner. Not very well known due to the fact that it’s a big hotel I think. But it’s definitely worth checking it out. The hotel location is impressive and the restaurant’s dining rooms are cozy and well decorated. The plates are tasty with some great wines they have to offer make dining fabulous. And at prices that are very affordable I might add: The staff is exceptionally friendly, helpful and professional. Our waiter Sergio didn’t miss one little detail and treated us as the greatest guests. Everybody of our family had a great time so we’ll definitely be back for another perfect diner evening in GC.

A really different place to eat in Maspalomas! Akara is set in two quite small 'huts' within the huge and very impressive upper bar of the hotel - which is itself quite stunning architecturally. Back to Akara. The food was excellent, especially for us as pescatarians, and the service was courteous and precise. We would certainly eat there again if we were in the locality.

Plates we loved: - Quail with pumpkin soup (the soup has notes of toffee so it’s a little sweet but delicious for just a starter) - Guinea fowl salad (the Guinea fowl is breaded but all in all the salad is one of the best Ive discovered) - lobster (perfectly done, not smothered in sauce, you can actually taste the lobster! The rice it comes with is also super yummy) Didn’t like the lamb, the sauce was way too sweet for our liking and you couldn’t actually taste the lamb. Felt like we were eating a bunch of sugar or honey, not a dinner meal. The service was a little slow at first until they realised we were waiting to be seated. There was no one by the entry and the bar staff adjacent were no help.
